Rounds five and six of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship saw Poulter and Sipuka classified sixth and seventh respectively in heat one Class A. Race two, run to a partially inverted grid, saw Sipuka and Poulter start second and third with the pair classified second and fourth.
Race 1:
All the hard work during the qualifying sessions is negated by a standing start for race one. Leeroy and Tschops got mixed up in a tight bunch of cars and that was it for the race.
– Team manager Glyn Hall, general manager of Nissan Motorsport.
I had a bad start and had to fight to get past Etienne van der Linde in the Afrox BMW. After that I got stuck behind a whole bunch of cars and there was little I could do about it.
– Leeroy Poulter.
It was not my best race. I was never in the right position to attack. The best thing was to sit tight and save the car for the second race.
– Tschops Sipuka.
Race 2:
I predicted before the race that heat two would be an Audi jungle and I was pretty much on the money. Tschops and Leeroy did well to salvage the results they came up with. I don’t think it would have been as good for us had all the Audis seen out the distance. Tschops and Leeroy would have battled to hold their positions. With the abrasive nature of the circuit and the subsequent tyre wear Leeroy and Tschops would have had no weapons left in the armoury.
– Team manager Glyn Hall.
It was a race of attrition for me and the other Nissan drivers. I was constantly having to defend my position and could do nothing about Shaun Watson-Smith getting past. I was fighting to hold of Melvill Priest and it was tough going and close racing. I managed to stay out of trouble but it could have been a better day.
– Leeroy Poulter
I started second and chased Darryn Lobb who started from pole position in one of the SAM Racing Nissan 350Z entries. I made one or two attempts at passing him and was pushed off line. I finally got past him two laps from the end. I led for one lap but Shaun Watson-Smith, with the Audi’s fourwheel drive, had too much traction for me.
– Tschops Sipuka.
