2003 SA Formula Vee champion, David Veringa enjoyed a solid start to his first Formula Ford championship, when the talented youngster drove home second and third in Saturday’s Kyalami Power Tour season opener. –
– For Veringa, who showed talent, pace and a wise head on his young shoulders to take a fiercely competitive Vee title last year, it was more of the same on Saturday, where a steady but spirited drive saw him bag a handy points haul in his immaculately prepared Sabat Mygale. –
– The weekend got off to a good start when the Sabat rising star put his Mygale onto the front row of the grid for both heats, to start second each time. –
– David had a fairly good start in race one although he dropped to third in the charge up to the first corner, but he fought back to steal second from English driver Ian Parsons on the last lap behind Formula Ford veteran Brett Mayberry, who won both heats.-
– The Sabat team chose the wrong set-up for heat 2, with Veringa losing out a little on pace and unable to challenge Parsons for second, but David drove a solid race to end third in the heat and third overall for the day. –
– “We’re very happy with this result, especially considering it’s our first proper crack at Formula Ford,” Veringa said after the race. “Now we need to work a little harder for the next race and hopefully challenge for the lead at Killarney in Cape Town on 03 April-
