Heading the list of events for the day will be the Zwartkops Thundercars. Thundercar racing takes into the realm a huge variety of machinery divided into four classes all racing for the same piece of tar.
The 30 car field is headed by the T-Class (tube framed cars), with the likes of Wimpie van Zyl and Richard Ransome in their Wesbank Camaro V8’s chased hard by Anton Britz in the screaming triple-rotor (sounds like a Formula One) Mazda. These three will be hard pressed by the Class A modified production cars such as the Porsche Carrera 3 of Frans Pretorius. The du Toit brothers will also be in a very challenging position with the Zwartkops Prototypes.
Franco de Matteo may well upset the whole field with the Sabat Ford Mustang. This event is a key feature of the race meeting, however, not to be outdone is the Volkswagen Challenge where the highly modified Polo Playa’s are at last coming to grips with the Golfs, and beating them.
The ever popular SuperHatch series will provide good value for money, while the new “Topless Racing” Sports Car Racing Association promises some excitement as modern roadsters such as the Mazda MX5, MG TF, BMW Z3 and Toyota MR2’s take on the MGB’s, Jaguars, Morgans, etc in their inaugural race.
The DK Porsche Challenge competitors will be out in full force with some of the most powerful Porsches in Southern Africa heading the field.
The single seater categories are represented by the newly re-born Formula Gti series, headed by the MAN entries of the Rocha brothers. These are the fastest single seaters in the country and, with a field of 26 cars, will provide exciting racing.
Also in the single seater category will be a national challenge round of the South African Formula Vee Championships and, just to make life interesting, the 250 Karts will be there for a spectacle of speed.
Finally, to round off the day, will be the Le Mans Challenge of 24 laps (pit stop with two drivers), for Pre 1965 Sports and GT Cars. Some great cars are entered for this event, including the spectacular E-Type Jaguar.
Racing starts at 10h30 with feature events from 14h00. Entrance is R30 per adult, children under 14 and public grandstands FREE. For more info contact Charlene on (012) 374-5802 or visit www.zwartkops.co.za.
