Croatian electric car specialist Rimac has turned the hypercar world on its head with its battery-powered Nevera, which is a production version of the Rimac C-Two concept that was revealed three years back.
Rimac will be producing just 150 examples of this 1 408 kW battery-powered beast, with prices starting at $2,4 million, which equated to around R33 million at the time of writing.
That insane power output, and its equally impressive 2 360 Nm maximum torque figure, is enabled by four surface-mounted permanent magnet motors that drive each wheel individually.
Four bespoke surface-mounted permanent magnet motors drive the Nevera’s four wheels individually, while the front and rear wheels are each connected to a pair of single-speed gearboxes.
The performance figures are even more astounding, with Rimac claiming a 0-96 km/h time of 1,85 seconds and 0-160 km/h sprint time of 4,3 seconds as well as a record-breaking 8,6 second quarter mile and a top speed of 412 km/h, assuming you ever find a road safe enough to do that on.
Some international media have been lucky enough to get their hands on the Nevera, and we particularly enjoyed CarWow’s drag race video, where the hypercar made absolute mincemeat of the Ferrari SF90.
Of course, instrumental in achieving these performance figures is an extremely lightweight structure. This takes the form of a groundbreaking carbonfibre monocoque that is said to be the most rigid automotive structure ever made, and it weighs just under 200 kg.
Helping to keep it glued to the ground is an all-wheel torque vectoring system that replaces traditional traction control systems, while enabling infinitely variable dynamic responses to road and track conditions. The system calculates the precise amount of torque that needs to be channelled to each wheel for optimal traction.
Oh, and each of the 150 cars will be personally signed off and tested by company founder Mate Rimac, who is no doubt extremely excited about his new creation.
“This is it. This is the car I had in mind when I embarked on the ‘impossible’ journey ten years ago,” Mate Rimac enthused.
“All our hard work has resulted in the Nevera – our record-breaking hypercar. This car was born to outperform, and to raise the bar, redefining the norm for performance cars. And not only in performance – but as an all-around package.
“When we first revealed the C_Two, we set our targets extremely high. There was nothing else that could even come close to matching the car’s cutting-edge electric powertrain and extreme performance. But for us, that was only the starting point”.
