ABT hands standard VW Golf 8 (and Audi A3) some extra grunt…

ABT Sportsline has released a new tuning kit for the 1,5 TSI engine used in models such as the Volkswagen Golf 8 and new Audi A3 Sportback.

The German tuner says its newly developed ABT engine control unit improves the turbocharged 1,5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine’s peak outputs from the standard figures of 110 kW and 250 N.m to a more useful 140 kW and 290 N.m.

This engine is, of course, available here in South Africa in the likes of the VW T-Cross and T-Roc, as well as in Audi’s A1 Sportback.

ABT says “hands-on enthusiasts” can install the control unit themselves. The company adds that thanks to the hermetic seal via a glued housing, waterproof plugs and a Gore-Tex membrane, the product is “optimally protected against all environmental influences”.

The VW Group specialist tuner claims the new control unit places engine protection “above all else”, pointing out “intelligent performance release ensures that full power is only available when the engine is warm”.

In Europe, the control unit will be available for the first half of 2021 at a special “introductory price” of €999 (that’s around R18 500 at the prevailing exchange rate).
