Seat, the Spanish subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, has lifted the covers off of its all-new Leon, which sources its underpinnings from the eighth-generation Golf. This new C-segment hatch also includes latest-generation hybrid powertrain technologies.
The new design introduces smooth flowing lines with a renewed focus on aerodynamics and an improved drag coefficient, with the new model claimed to be eight percent more slippery than the previous generation. New LED headlamps lend the car a deeper focus. The rear adopts a unique “coast-to-coast” LED design which, together with the spoiler, aims to create a concept of speed.
Inside, the Leon draws heavily on its Golf cousin. Similarities in the design can be seen on the dash and centre console. Key features of the Leon’s cabin include a digital cockpit and 10-inch infotainment screen. The gear-selector is also notabily similar to the Golf’s.
The Leon will be available in five trim levels (SE Dynamic, FR, FR Sport, Xcellence and Xcellence Lux) and offer family-familiar TSI and TDI engine options. Included in the powertrain lineup is the mild-hybrid eTSI and PHEV eHybrid units. The eTSI sources power from a 48 V supplied 1,0-litre TSI turbopetrol, while the eHybrid uses a 13 kWh battery pack mated with the 1,4-litre TSI.
Of course, we won’t see the new Leon in South Africa considering Seat no longer has a presence in this country…
