Hennessey has announced it plans to drop a supercharged V8 engine into the new Ford Bronco.
The news comes after the Blue Oval brand confirmed it would likely not offer a factory V8 for its new off-roading SUV.
Thanks to the Texas-based tuning specialist, the Bronco will be fitted with a Ford Performance 5,0-litre V8. Thanks to a 3,0-litre supercharger, an air-to-water intercooler, high-flow air induction, upgraded fuel injectors and a stainless-steel cat-back exhaust, the big engine is set to deliver a whopping 560 kW. Using Ford’s ten-speed automatic transmission, Hennessey claims the Bronco will accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 4,5 seconds.
The VelociRaptor Bronco will, of course, also sport some visual enhancements. These includes new front and rear bumpers with LEDs, and a custom grille complemented by a VelociRaptor sticker pack and a set of upgraded alloy wheels.
Alterations to the cabin will include a custom interior with “Hennessey” embroidered headrests and a “Limited Edition” serial numbered plaque. Adding to its off-roading capabilities are an upgraded suspension and all-terrain tyres.
Just 24 examples will be built, offered in both two- and four-door configurations. All-in, the VelociRaptor Bronco will cost $225 000 (that’s around R3,7-million).
“Over the past two years, we have built over 70 Gen 2 Ford Raptors for our customers by removing the EcoBoost V6 and replacing it with the same 750 HP supercharged 5,0 V8. I wanted to build the ultimate Ford Bronco for myself and for our customers,” said John Hennessey, company founder and CEO.
