Hot hatch appetiser? New (standard power) Hyundai i20 N Line unveiled

By: CAR magazine

Hyundai has whipped the covers off its new i20 N Line, handing the hatchback sportier looks but no extra oomph.

Of course, a full-fat i20 N is very much on the horizon, so this N Line variant unveiled for Europe will serve as a bridge between the cooking models and the upcoming hot hatch.

The Korean firm says the N Line package features exterior and interior design elements “inspired” by the high-performance N range. Power comes from an unchanged turbocharged 1,0-litre engine generating 88 kW and mated to the front wheels via the company’s six-speed “intelligent” manual gearbox. Still, Hyundai claims to have enhanced “engine response and exhaust sound”.

The i20 N Line gains a model-specific front bumper with a grey character line plus a black grille (complete with the N Line badge). Yet more grey accents are scattered round the exterior, while the rear bumper features a centrally sited triangular foglamp. There are also chrome-finished twin tailpipes round back.

In Europe, four exterior colours (Phantom Black, Aurora Grey, Polar White and Brass) will be offered, with the white version also available with a black roof. A set of 17‑inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish will ship standard, while Hyundai says suspension upgrades have been made, too.

Inside, the i20 N Line boasts N-branded sports seats up front as well as a new N steering wheel. Other enhancements include metal pedals and a leather gearshift knob with red inserts.
