Mahindra Pik Up gains fresh ‘mining spec’ option in South Africa…

Mahindra South Africa has announced a new mining specification option for the S6-badged double-cab version of its Pik Up.

Available for the recently upgraded S6 double-cab variant fitted with a 4×4 drivetrain (with rear locking differential) and manual gearbox, the mining spec package has been designed to meet the industry’s “strict safety and signage regulations”.

The package was developed by Mahindra’s team in Pretoria, with help from the brand’s fitment centre near Kempton Park and assembly facility in Durban.

The listed price of R405 999 suggests the package costs some R51 500. So, what do you get for the extra outlay? Well, the mining spec kit includes “heavy-duty” external roll-over protection as well as the required red, white and yellow decals. There’s also a roof-mounted light bar and a reverse buzzer.

Other additions include a rubberised load bin, a cargo net, stop blocks, wheel-nut indicators and “heavy-duty” seat covers. Mahindra has also added a fire extinguisher, a first-aid kit and something it terms a “COVID kit”. Mahindra says it provides a “full warranty” on workmanship and equipment.

Features carried over from the standard Pik Up double-cab model include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, cruise control and air conditioning. Power comes from the Indian firm’s 2,2-litre mHawk turbodiesel engine, which delivers an unchanged 103 kW and 320 N.m.
