Mahindra SA drops XUV300 starting price with new W4 base model…

Mahindra South Africa has added a new W4 entry-level derivative to its XUV300 range, dropping the line-up’s starting price to R234 999.

As a reminder, at launch in May 2019, the local range kicked off at R249 999 for the petrol-powered W6 variant.

Interestingly, the new base XUV300 W4 draws its urge from the Indian firm’s 1,5-litre turbodiesel engine, which offers 86 kW and 300 N.m to the front axle via a six-speed manual gearbox. The W4 is some R40 000 cheaper than the W6 with the same powertrain.

A look through the specs reveals the W4 features two airbags (as opposed to the seven employed by the flagship W8), ABS with EBD and Isofix child-seat anchors.

But the newcomer also has to make do with 16-inch steel wheels (just like the W6 variants, and wrapped in 205/65 rubber), black (rather than silver) lower-grille trim and a 3,5-inch (rather than 7,0-inch) resistive touchscreen.

Mahindra has furthermore deleted the roof rails (which were purely cosmetic, anyway), the daytime running lights, the black side- and door cladding, the rear spoiler and the skid plates (front and rear).

Inside, the W4 loses out on height adjustment for the front seatbelts, an electric tailgate release and steering wheel mounted controls, while also doing without built-in navigation, a one-touch lane-change function for the indicators and a follow-me-home function for the headlamps.

Lastly, the W4 variant misses out on the five-year/90 000 km service plan that is standard across the rest of the range.
