Mahindra Scorpio S11: extra oomph, more kit and longer service plan…

By: CAR magazine

Mahindra South Africa has given its Scorpio S11 some extra grunt, while also updating the seven-seater SUV’s cabin.

The upgraded Scorpio S11’s 2,2-litre turbodiesel engine (still mated to a six-speed manual gearbox; Mahindra SA has yet to roll out the double-cab Pik Up’s six-speed automatic to the Scorpio) now makes 103 kW and 320 N.m, up from the previous figures of 88 kW and 280 N.m. As before, the Scorpio S11 is offered in 4×2 and 4×4 guise, with the former priced at R329 999 and the latter at R349 999 (each some R20 000 more than before).

What else do you get for the extra outlay? Well, the Indian firm has added its latest-generation seven-inch touchscreen (an inch larger than the old version) to the cabin, complete with satellite navigation and able to display a video feed from the reversing camera. In addition, the upgraded Scorpio gains a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel.

The standard service plan, meanwhile, has been extended from the previous three-year/70 000 km item to a new five-year/90 000 km arrangement. A four-year/120 000 km warranty is also included, up from the previous three-year/100 000 km version.
