New 235 kW Volkswagen Tiguan R: price for Germany announced…

Volkswagen in Germany has opened the order books for its new Tiguan R, releasing the starting price for the high-performance crossover.

So, how much will the new Tiguan R set you back in VW’s domestic market? Well, pricing in Germany starts at €56 703,53 (inclusive of VAT), which translates to around R1 022 000. For the record, that’s a premium of €8 685,38 (currently about R156 000) over the Golf 8 R.

Whether or not this turns out to be a reliable indicator of the Tiguan R’s price in South Africa remains to be seen, what with the local launch pencilled in for the “latter part” of 2021 (with the standard facelifted Tiguan coming in the first quarter).

As a reminder, the new Tiguan R draws its urge from the Wolfsburg-based firm’s familiar EA888 turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. Delivering maximum power of 235 kW at 5 500 r/min and peak torque of 420 N.m from as low as 2 100 all the way through to 5 350 r/min, the four-pot drives all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The result, says Volkswagen, is a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 4,9 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

In Germany, the Tiguan R is available with an optional titanium exhaust system from the folks over at Akrapovič as well as 21-inch “Estoril” alloy wheels. The newcomer can also be ordered with the Black Style exterior design package.
