New Hyundai Venue baby SUV: SA launch date pencilled in

Hyundai Automotive South Africa has confirmed it plans to launch the new Venue entry-level SUV locally in the final quarter of 2019.

The fresh-faced Venue, recently revealed at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, will slot in at the bottom of the Korean brand’s burgeoning SUV range, below the Kona and Creta, with Hyundai billing it as the “most affordable” SUV in its line-up.

While its general (boxy) proportions may well remind you of the Creta, the Venue is actually quite a bit smaller.

“We plan to introduce the Venue in our local model line-up, pending the completion of a business case study,” said Stanley Anderson, sales and operations director at Hyundai Automotive SA.

“The initial impression of the Venue is that of a seamless combination of style and versatility. It is small in size, but big on practicality and personality, and it has lovely bold character,” he added.

The Venue will be produced in South Korea and India, with SA-spec models set to be imported from the latter.

Hyundai hasn’t yet revealed much in the way of official powertrain details, but we do know the Venue will be offered in some markets with a naturally aspirated 1,6-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels via either a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission. Local specifications have, of course, not yet been confirmed.
