New Kia Seltos small SUV unveiled (and confirmed for South Africa)

The new Kia Seltos has been revealed, and the Korean brand’s local arm has already confirmed the fresh-faced small SUV for South Africa.

Kia says the new Seltos will be produced in both India and Korea, with sales commencing in initial markets in the second half of 2019. The newcomer is expected to launch in South Africa early in 2020, with local specifications and pricing to be confirmed closer to the time.

In India, the Seltos boasts full LED headlamps and taillights, along with LED daytime running lights, LED foglamps and “3D multi-layer indicators”. It rides on a choice of 16-, 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels, shod in 205/60 R16, 215/55 R17 and 235/45 R18 tyres, respectively.

Inside, Kia says the Seltos features “high-quality, futuristic” materials. Some models will boast a 10,25-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with split-screen functionality), an 8,0-inch head-up display and “sound mood lighting”. Higher-spec variants in India feature an eight-speaker Bose audio system.

Kia says the new Seltos will come equipped with a range of “newly developed” third-generation powertrains, with both naturally aspirated and turbocharged options (the latter including petrol and diesel).

Depending on the market, the Seltos will be offered with up to three automatic transmission options (a seven-speed-dual clutch, a six-speed automatic transmission and a continuously variable transmission). Interestingly, the new vehicle will feature a drive mode select system, encompassing normal, eco and sport settings.

The Seltos will be fitted with six airbags in India, as well as a suite of electronic vehicle safety systems that includes traction control and electronic stability control. Depending on the model and market, the vehicle will also be fitted with ABS, hill-start assist control and parking sensors (front and rear).
