New Lamborghini Sián Roadster ‘sold out’ before it was even revealed…

Lamborghini has unwrapped its new Sián Roadster, an open-top version of the hybrid “super sportscar” revealed in 2019 … but every example has already been sold.

While the Sant’Agata Bolognese-based company will build a total of 63 units of the coupé it revealed in September 2019, it’ll produce just 19 examples of this new roadster.

Interestingly, the Sián Roadster is completely roofless (or, in Lamborghini talk, “always open to the sky”). Like the coupé, though, the Sián Roadster combines Lamborghini’s V12 engine with a new hybrid system, with the latter providing the “highest power possible via the lightest solution”.

A 48 V “e-motor” is incorporated into the gearbox to provide “immediate response and improved performance”, while also supporting low-speed manoeuvres such as reversing and parking. Rather than employing a lithium-ion battery, the Sián uses a supercapacitor located in the bulkhead between the cockpit and engine.

And the V12? Well, the combustion engine makes 577 kW at 8 500 r/min; with extra oomph courtesy of the hybrid system, the Sián Roadster delivers a peak system output of 602 kW (just like the coupé) and reaches a top speed of “over 350 km/h”. Lamborghini says the newcomer will hit 100 km/h from standstill in “less than 2,9 seconds”.

“The Sián Roadster encapsulates the spirit of Lamborghini. It is the expression of breathtaking design and extraordinary performance, but most importantly embodies important future technologies,” said Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini chairman and CEO.

“The Sián’s innovative hybrid powertrain heralds the direction for Lamborghini super sports car, and the open-top Sián Roadster affirms a desire for the ultimate lifestyle Lamborghini as we move towards a tomorrow demanding new solutions,” he added.
