New Opel Corsa in South Africa: price and specification details…

By: CAR magazine

The new Opel Corsa has finally touched down in South Africa, though just a single derivative is offered from launch.

Still, Peugeot Citroën South Africa, which has just taken over local distribution of the Opel brand, says “further versions” are scheduled to arrive later in the first quarter of 2021.

So, what do we know? Well, the sixth-generation hatchback arrives in Corsa Edition form, priced from R289 900.

It’s powered by a naturally aspirated 1,2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine sending 55 kW (at 5 750 r/min) and 118 N.m (from 2 750 r/min) to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. Opel claims a combined fuel economy figure of 5,8 L/100 km, with CO2 emissions pegged at 130 g/km.

Measuring 4 055 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2 540 mm, the new Corsa has a claimed luggage capacity of 309 litres, expandable to 1 081 litres with the rear bench folded down.

The Corsa Edition rides on 16-inch alloys wrapped in 195/55 R16 rubber. Tyre-pressure monitoring ships standard, along with items such as automatic headlamps, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a seven-inch touchscreen.

Safety features, meanwhile, include ABS, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, six airbags, Isofix child-seat anchors and seatbelt reminders. A three-year/45 000 km service plan (with 15 000 km intervals) and a three-year/120 000 km warranty are included in the price.
