Isuzu Motors South Africa has launched an updated version of its MU-X, handing the bakkie-based seven-seater SUV a series of upgrades inside and out.

Two years after the model’s arrival in SA, the Japanese firm’s local division says the MU-X has gained an “eye-catching array of styling enhancements” for the exterior, along with “more sophisticated and upmarket finishes” for the cabin.

Furthermore, the two-model range gains a brake override system, which restricts accelerator input if the brakes are applied at the same time.

The rear-driven variant is now priced at R630 400, while the 4×4 model comes in at R698 200.

Up front, the MU-X gains a fresh grille design, a restyled bumper (incorporating colour coding for the upper section and a contrasting gloss-black finish for the lower portion) and revised foglamps.

The ladder-frame SUV also gains new 18-inch gloss-black diamond-cut alloy wheels, along with a gloss-black finish for the side steps. The rear bumper, meanwhile, has been given a similar treatment to the front (with colour-coding and gloss-black finishes), while new taillamp clusters have been adopted.

Inside, you’ll find new piano black finishes for the door switch bezels, door trim panels, gear shift surround and centre stack for the eight-inch touchscreen system (a nine-inch item is optionally offered) and climate control. Meanwhile, the leather-trimmed steering wheel’s switches are now black with silver garnish, while ambient lighting has been introduced, too.

As before, power comes from Isuzu’s 3,0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, delivering 130 kW and 380 N.m via a six-speed automatic transmission.
