Suzuki Auto South Africa has added special-edition variants to its Swift and Ignis ranges. The local arm of the Japanese firm says the new models have been introduced to celebrate the brand’s recent sales success.

Three new derivatives have been added to the mix: the Swift 1,2 GL SE, the Ignis 1,2 GL SE and the Ignis 1,2 GLX SE. Each employs Suzuki’s naturally aspirated 1,2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 61 kW and 113 N.m to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox.

Priced at R193 900 (or some R12 000 more than the variant on which it is based), the Swift 1,2 GL SE gains model-specific decals (including stripes on the bonnet and tailgate), a blue rear roof spoiler, blue side-mirror caps, door visors, a door-sill guard and a new front grille with blue trim.

Inside, the special-edition hatchback upgrades to a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Suzuki SA will offer the Swift 1,2 GL SE in either Arctic White or Silky Silver exterior paint, with 50 units of each hue available.

And the Ignis 1,2 GL SE? Well, this derivative is priced at R186 400 (some R6 000 more than the standard GL) and gains black door cladding, door visors, mud flaps, red trim on the grille and red body decals on the flanks. It will likewise be available in Arctic White and Silky Silver, with just 25 examples of each set to hit the local market.

The Ignis GLX SE, meanwhile, comes in at R212 400 (an increase of R10 000 over the normal GLX) and is set apart by its white grille surround, centre bar garnish and foglamp bezels. The upgrade also includes door visors, a cheeky rear spoiler and white decals on the body (with the final product thus ending up looking exactly like our recent long-termer).

Some 50 units of the Ignis GLX SE will be offered in South Africa, each finished in Tinsel Blue with white highlights.
