Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed the new Polo Vivo Sound Edition variant will join its range in September 2019.

The local arm of the Wolfsburg-based firm says it came up with the special-edition derivative to celebrate “the love of music as well as the success of the Polo Vivo brand”.

The locally produced Polo Vivo Sound Edition is based on the 1,4 Comfortline derivative, with its naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine sending 63 kW and 132 N.m to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox. Priced at R220 000, the newcomer costs R16 000 more than the variant on which it is based.

So, what do you score for the extra cash? Well, the Sound Edition boasts 16-inch “Rivazza” alloy wheels (finished in an Anthracite hue), an R340G Radio with App-Connect, a six-speaker system (with a subwoofer that appears to take a bite out of luggage capacity), an “Energetic Orange” finish for the side-mirror caps and equaliser decals on the doors and tailgate.

It will be offered exclusively in Pure White, Limestone Grey and Reef Blue exterior paint colours. The Black interior styling package – which adds Anthracite headliner, sun visors and trim as well as privacy glass and leather treatment for the steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake lever – will cost you an additional R2 500.

The Polo Vivo Sound Edition will ship standard with a three-year/120 000 km, while a service plan and maintenance plan will be offered as options.

“As at the end of July 2019, 17 672 Polo Vivo units have been sold in South Africa this year. We are confident that the addition of a special premium sound system in the Polo Vivo will appeal to young customers [who] are passionate about quality sound when they are listening to music,” said Martina Biene, head of sales and marketing for the Volkswagen brand in SA.
