Refreshed Volkswagen Arteon previewed … but it won’t come to SA

By: CAR magazine

Volkswagen has released a teaser sketch previewing its facelifted Arteon (and finally confirming a “Shooting Brake” version) … but it isn’t on the cards for South Africa.

In May 2020, VW SA confirmed to CARmag.co.za the Arteon had been discontinued locally. The company furthermore said the facelifted version of the sleeky styled fastback would “not be making its way to South Africa” either.

Anyway, let’s take a look at the initial details and see what our market will be missing out on. Firstly, the Wolfsburg-based firm says a “second product line variant” will be available, describing it as a “Shooting Brake” (pictured below).

“With the Arteon Shooting Brake we have created a new balance between speed, power and space,” said Klaus Bischoff, head of Volkswagen Group design.

Inside, the refreshed Arteon will be given what VW calls a “completely new cockpit environment”, including the latest MIB3 infotainment system.

While Volkswagen doesn’t mention any specific changes to the engine line-up, it does says “maximum efficiency” will be achieved by “innovative, future-oriented engine and emissions technologies”. In addition, new “intelligent” assist systems will be introduced.

The updated Arteon and the new Arteon Shooting Brake are scheduled to be officially revealed on 24 June.
