Toyota in North America has handed its Corolla hatchback and sedan the “Nightshade” treatment, blacking out various exterior elements on both models.

The special-edition version of the Corolla hatch features black 18-inch alloy wheels as well as a lower front rocker, exterior door handles, side-mirror caps, side rockers, a sharkfin antenna, a rear spoiler, and rear faux-diffuser finished in the same hue. There’s also a black grille surround and black window trim.

The headlamps, meanwhile, are fitted with black inner frames, and the exterior badging is blacked out, too. While the vehicle can be ordered in super white, classic silver metallic and midnight black metallic, the cabin’s seats ship standard in black fabric.

And the Nightshade Edition of the Corolla sedan? Well, it’s much the same case here, although the three-box version of the Corolla is also offered with a black sand pearl paint finish.

The two Nightshade models offered in the US are each powered by naturally aspirated 2,0-litre petrol engines, offering 125 kW and 210 N.m to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission.

The Corolla hatchback available in South Africa is a little different, of course, drawing its urge from a turbocharged 1,2-litre four-cylinder mill, sending 85 kW and 185 N.m to the front axle through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. Meanwhile, last we heard, the latest-generation Corolla sedan is scheduled to hit SA at some point in 2020.
