Upcoming BMW i-models undergo extreme weather testing

BMW has announced that three of its next-generation EVs (electric Vehicles) are being put through stringent testing at its winter facilty in Arjeplog, Sweden, located at the edge of the Arctic Circle.

The models, currently on test are the iX3 sports activity vehicle (SAV), the four-door i4 coupé and iNEXT.

According to the BMW; so far, the electric motors, high-voltage batteries, eDrive technology and suspension control systems found in these EVs have proven to be durable and reliable in the extreme weather and road conditions.

The iX3 is set to go on sale next year, with the i4 and iNEXT to follow in 2021.

The iX3 will be the first car to be produced for the global market by the BMW Brilliance Automotive Joint Venture in Shenyang, China. The i4 on the other hand, will be built at the German manufacturer’s Munich plant come 2021.

Both iX3 will feature the BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology, a powerful electric motor generating more than 200 kW and a storage unit with state-of-the-art battery cell technology contributing to claimed operating ranges of 400 km for the iX3 and and 600 km for the i4.

BMW says the i4 is developed to deliver a more dynamic driving experience, claiming it can reach the 100 km/h marker in four seconds flat before reaching a top speed in excess of 200 km/h.
