Hyundai has taken the wraps off its thoroughly updated Santa Fe, which interestingly moves to a new platform.
Described as going “beyond a mere facelift”, the update comes a mere two years after the fourth-generation Santa Fe was introduced.
The company says the refreshed Santa Fe is the first Hyundai SUV to be based on its “all-new, third-generation” platform. It claims the new underpinnings allow for “significant improvements in performance, handling, fuel efficiency and safety”.
So, what’s new in terms of styling? Well, the refreshed front end gains a wide grille that connects the main headlamp units. The distinctive lighting signature includes T-shaped LED daytime running lights.
Lower down, you’ll notice a large air intake, framed by vertically oriented “aerodynamic inlets” which the Korean firm says “improve air flow efficiency and strengthen the upright and robust impression”.
Hyundai has also widened the Santa Fe’s wheel-arch claddings and introduced new alloy wheel designs, including a 20-inch option. Round back, there are fresh taillamps connected by a red reflector band.
Inside, Hyundai promises the Santa Fe offers “more space, comfort and convenience” than before, claiming the updated cabin takes the vehicle to a “new level of luxury with every component finished in premium soft-touch materials”.
Look closely and you’ll see a new lower facia design, a redesigned centre console and a fresh 10,25-inch touchscreen system, along with a 12,3-inch fully digital instrument cluster. Interestingly, the Santa Fe also gains a “terrain mode” selector on the centre console.
In Europe, Hyundai will offer the updated Santa Fe with new hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
