No, your eyes don’t deceive you. Hyundai has indeed revealed the first image of the Veloster Grappler concept, handing perhaps the least likely member of its line-up the off-road treatment.
Set to be fully unveiled at the 2019 SEMA show in November, the Grappler concept boasts increased ground clearance and what the Korean firm describes as “superb” approach and departure angles for “confident off-roading capability”.
The show car – complete with custom vinyl body wrap and Seibon carbon-fibre bonnet – furthermore features custom front and rear “brush guards” as well as large all-terrain tyres wrapped round Method Racing wheels. There’s even a Borla cat-back exhaust.
For added load-carrying ability, the concept gains a roof-mounted Thule utility basket (also functioning as the base mount for a removable solar panel from Goal Zero), complemented by a high-output lighting system from Baja Designs.
Inside, Hyundai says you’ll find an integrated roll bar, traction mats, a utility shovel, a Goal Zero portable power station, roadside assistance kit, first aid kit, Napier outdoor dome tent and Recaro seats finished in a vintage hounds tooth check pattern.
