The provisional Formula One calendar for 2002 springs no major surprises. But if reports about possible Grands Prix in Russia, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia are true, 2002 may be the last season to feature as many European races as on the current calendar.

The British GP is scheduled to take place ahead of the French GP, which is a break in tradition. The FIA has not divulged reasons for switching the two rounds, but the proposed date for the British GP, July 7, falls in the middle of the British rainy season. Given the horrendously muddy conditions experienced at last year’s rain-drenched British GP, the FIA might need to reconsider its decision.
As with the current season, a three-week break will take place between the German and Hungarian GPs, while there will be just one week between the French and German races.
