There’s something about old cars. They have the type of charm and personality that can’t be seen in many modern day vehicles. Ex-CAR staffer Mike Monk travelled to the George Old Car Show to get a closer look at a gathering of vintage cars.
Some of the highlights included a 1939 Chevrolet Coupe street rod owned by Jimmy Share who bought the car when it wasn’t in its greatest condition. It features bright paintwork, large wheels and a 305 ci Chevrolet V8 engine mated with a BMW 528 transmission.
Also at the show was a 1958 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith. Mike reports that the Silver Wraith was the first post war Rolls-Royce model and was made in Crewe, England, from 1946 to 1959. This is a long-wheelbase model and is one of only 639 of its kind. Under the bonnet lies a 4 877 cm3 straight-six engine. The current owner is John Haresnape.
