Mercedes-Benz South Africa has revealed pricing for the local 2013 E-Class range.
On the petrol front, the local line-up kicks off with the four-cylinder E200, which develops 135 kW and works its way upward from the E250 (155 kW), the E400 (a 3,0-litre twin-turbo V6 developing 245 kW that replaces the E350), E500 (300 kW) to a brace of AMG models – the 410 kW E63 AMG and the mighty E63 AMG S with 430 kW on tap.
The diesel line-up encompasses two models – the four-cylinder E250 CDI (150 kW) and the V6 E350 BlueTEC (185 kW). The E300 BlueTEC Hybrid will be a first for the E-Class range. It utilises a 2,1-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel coupled with a 20 kW electric motor for a combined output of 150 kW. This drivetrain features a ‘sailing’ function that allows the petrol engine to be switched off when coasting at speeds of less than 160 km/h. The combined fuel consumption figure for this engine is 4,1 litres/100 km.
