SsangYong has leaked/semi-released details of its next-generation Stavic MPV ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut.
The previous Stavic (known as the Rodius or Turismo in certain markets) was, to be frank, something of an aesthetic abomination. It appears that SsangYong has paid heed to such a reception and consequently given the new model a far more conventional appearance – still, that odd tail-end treatment appears to have snuck its way back into the fray, albeit in a more diluted manner.
The interior also receives a more conventional refresh that dispenses with the previous model’s centrally mounted speedometer in favour of a digital item sited directly in front of the driver.
In essence, the 2013 SsangYong Stavic is still a large, van-like MPV. Certain markets will see the Stavic offered in nine-, ten- of even 11-seater configurations with sliding functions for the second- and third-row pews. The extra rows will be offered an optional fitment in most markets, while others will see them make way for a spacious load bay.
Three trim levels will be offered (LT: Luxury Touring, GT: Grand Touring, RT: Royal Touring) with the upper-tier models offering such features as a touchscreen infotainment system with integrated sat-nav.
The engine line-up will comprise a 2,0-litre turbodiesel developing 144 kW/360 N.m of torque that can return a claimed average fuel consumption figure of 7,3 L/100 km and a 3,2-litre six-cylinder petrol engine for selected markets. The turbodiesel can be coupled with a six-speed manual or a five-speed auto transmission sourced fro Mercedes.
Early reports suggest that the Stavic will find its way back to SA by August 2013.
