With the 84th Geneva Motor Show in full swing from today, we bring you some of the standout vehicles making their debut in Switzerland.
1. SsangYong XLV
The eXciting smart Lifestyle Vehicle (XLV), although quite radical looking for now, could very well be an indication of what the company’s future offerings might look like. The 7-seater is actually derived from a previous SsangYong concept, the XIV-1, but amongst other improvements uses an advanced electronic system called 3S-Cube to make the experience a lot more comfortable for the driver – which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and even a customisable digital instrument panel. The XLV is a hybrid powered by a 1,6-litre diesel and electric motor.
2. Subaru Viziv 2
The interesting new Subaru Viziv features two more doors over its concept predecessor, with scissor-like front doors and minibus taxi-like rear items. More importantly, the Viziv 2 makes use of a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain that uses a direct-injection 1,6-litre horizontally opposed engine and high-voltage battery. All the hybrid components apparently pair well with the company’s legendary symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.
3. Toyota Aygo
Just like its Citroen C1 cousin, the new Toyota Aygo will employ a 1,0-litre three-cylinder motor that produces 51 kW and 95 N.m of torque, coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox or five-speed auto. Inside, there’s quite a large infotainment screen that dominates the facia, but turning the most heads will be the dramatic front-end styling. Why so serious?
4. VW Scirocco
The updated Scirocco gets a fresher face by way of redesigned headlamps and tweaked front and rear bumpers. The cabin benefits from brushed metal trim and a host of new colours and upholstery design choices. The four turbopetrol and two turbodiesel motors on offer are believed to offer better fuel economy and fewer CO2 emissions – despite offering more power than before.
5. Volkswagen T-Roc
A good look at what future VW SUVs could look like, the T-Roc could likely become a production model itself, slotting in just above the Golf as a crossover. While the design is fairly radical, the T-Roc shares the Golf’s MQB chassis, as well as a fairly run-of-the-mill 2,0-litre turbodiesel that makes 135 kw and 380 N.m of torque.
6. Volvo Concept Estate
Drawing inspiration from the legendary P1800 ES three-door wagon that went out of production 40 years ago, the Concept Estate is the latest in a line of gorgeous concepts from the Swedish manufacturer in recent months. The clean lines of the exterior have been carried over to the cabin, which oozes simplicity. Most of the interior features can be controlled via a tablet-sized touchscreen mounted mid-facia.
