Every year Nissan continues to enhance and modify its very capable GT-R. Now, the latest 2014 incarnation has been released with a a few tweaks throughout the car.
The car is still powered by the 3,8-litre, V6, twin-turbocharged engine connected to a six-speed double-clutch transmission. Delivering 397 kW at 6 400 r/min and 628 N.m from 3 200 r/min, Nissan claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of only 2,9 seconds and a top speed of 315 km/h.
Mechanical upgrades include slight changes to the suspension including optimised electronic control of the shock absorber valves. The front suspension has received updates to the front stabiliser spring rates.
According to Nissan’s press release, attention has also been focussed on the car’s NHV (noise, vibration and harshness) levels.
The GT-R now comes with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST CTT tyres while the braking calibration now offers a “firmer and more linear response at everyday speeds”.
At the front the car has received new multi-LED headlights. Nissan’s adaptive front lighting system (AFS) now adjust the angle of the lights according to the speed the car is going. At high speeds the lights will be angled to give the driver better visibility further down the road.
The interior is now available with a new red colour trim while the infotainment and satellite navigation system have been also been updated.
More importantly are the optional carbon fibre rear wing and carbon fibre boot lid. These visual changes will also contribute to a few kilograms weight reduction and a slight increase in downforce, although Nissan didn’t specify by how much.
As cars such as the GT-R Track Pack and Nismo become available, it is quite clear that Nissan is focusing on making the standard GT-R a true daily super car, which these latest upgrades are clearly illustrating.
Apart from the standard 3-years/100 000 km warranty, Nissan South Africa is offering an optional two year extension to 5-years/100 000 km. The GT-R also comes with a 3-year/50 000 km service plan.
