Land Rover announced at the New York Auto Show that it will add a Sport model to the next-generation Discovery range. It will be the first version of the fifth-generation of Land Rover’s large family SUV.
According to the carmaker, which released the teaser image above, the Discovery Sport will be an “all-new premium compact SUV” and will share styling cues with the Discovery Vision concept. Said Land Rover director of design, Gerry McGovern: “This will be the most versatile and capable SUV in its segment and is the first expression of the Discovery Vision concept unveiled here in New York.”
Contradicting early reports that Land Rover will replace the archaic Freelander with a new model that continues the name, we wouldn’t be surprised if “compact SUV” hinted at a Freelander replacement.
