With the increasing demand for diesel powered small passenger cars, Peugeot has introduced a frugal diesel version to complement its popular 206 lineup.
The engine used in the new 206 HDi is a high-pressure direct-injection common rail diesel engine. With its two-litre capacity, it is capable of delivering 66 kW at 4 000 r/min and torque of 205 N.m at a very low 1 750 r/min. Combined with a five-speed manual transmission, the 206 HDi is ideal for both city and open-road driving conditions.
With its frugal engine consuming an average of only five litres per 100 km in varied driving conditions, the HDi is able to reach a top speed of 180 km/h.
MD of Peugeot Motors SA Thierry Poirat said: “There is a clear movement in the marketplace towards diesel-powered passenger cars, not only in Europe but also in South Africa. By adding the 206 HDi to the lineup we believe we can further comply with the market’s growing set of requirements.”
The HDi is equipped with a high level of standard equipment and on the safety side is fitted with driver and passenger airbags, ABS, side impact beams and front and rear foglights.
If luxury is what you’re after, the HDi also comes with power-steering, four electric windows, an onboard computer, adjustable drivers seat and steering wheel, airconditioning, CD player, and an automatic windscreen wiper with rain sensor.
The 206 HDi costs R159 900 and is warranted for three years / 100 000km, while the maintenance interval for this diesel engine is 20 000 km. Peugeot assures a free warrantee check every 10 000km while Peugeot Assistance provides roadside assistance anywhere in the country. Peugeot’s maintenance plan is available as an option.
