The rumour mill have been turning at speed this year regarding the upcoming GT3 RS. We are quite certain that the original launch date was move a few months on following the slight problem with a handful of GT3 engines.
It seems that even though the upcoming GT3 RS have air intakes in front of the rear wheels (a first for a GT3), the engine will not be turbocharged, but will feature a 4,0-litre, flat-six engine developing 373 kW. That means, power delivery is spot on to what the limited edition 997 GT3 RS 4.0 delivered. However, unlike the previous generation GT3 RS, the new model will – apparently – only be offered with a PDK transmission.
The report by WorldCarFans also suggests that the front wheels will by 20-inch in size, and the rear wheel 21-inch. From the pictures it is also clear that the front edge of the bonnet will feature a vent, similar to that seen on previous GT3 and GT2 models. For the first time on a production Porsche, the front wheelarch will also have vents, often seen on race cars. The car could be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015, with deliveries starting in May.
According to a forum user on Rennlist, who has already placed an order on the car (apparently), the GT3 can also lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in “under 07:30”, while Porsche’s test drivers have managed a very respectable 7:10 seconds! Should this be the case, the RS will only be 13 seconds slower than Porsche’s hypercar, the 918!
Soon all will be revealed.
