Pirelli South Africa recently launched the Scorpion Verde: a high-performance eco tyre for SUVs and Crossovers. Scorpion Verde utlises Pirelli's extensive experience in tyre technology and in developing eco-friendly tyres for other applications. Scorpion Verde boasts new materials and a new structure that guarantees steady performance throughout the tyre’s useful life in terms of diminishing noxious emissions, noise reduction, running economy, shorter braking distances, and comfort.
This new is tyre made entirely with materials free from aromatic oils. New materials and production techniques result in a drop in rolling resistance equal to 20 per cent in total, allowing for reductions in both consumption and noxious emissions. In addition Pirelli have seen a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 3,9 per cent for city driving and of 3,4 per cent on mixed routes. Acoustic emissions are lowered by one decibel, which is equal to a total perceived reduction of noise pollution by 30 per cent. Even in the production the Scorpion Verde shows gains in terms of ecologoical sensitivity. It is lighter and has been designed to use 10 per cent less raw materials, decreasing its environmental impact per unit produced by the same amount.
The new footwear was designed with high-end SUVs in mind and as such does not compromise in terms of performance for the sake of environmental friendliness and provides improved braking, greater traction on wet surfaces and better handling.
Pirelli claims that the Scorpion Verde is the first tyre with ecological features to be developed for SUVs and Crossovers, which are now available in a number of sizes from tyre outlets countrywide.
