When it comes to premium hot hatches and quick small cars, BMW and Audi have pretty much mastered the art by now. But now a new contender is about to join the title fight. Enter the Mercedes-Benz A25 AMG.
According to evo.co.uk, the new hot hatch will be available as early as next year and will feature a four-wheel-drive system, an all-new four-cylinder turbocharged engine that pushes out 250-plus kW and will be mated with a twin-clutch transmission.
Evo reports that Ola Kallenius, boss of Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division, has said the choice to use all-wheel drive was made because the “pure front-wheel-drive” set-up in the A-Class wouldn’t work with the planned engine, which is currently under development.
Visually, the A25 AMG is expected to be a five-door version of the Concept A that was unveiled in Geneva last year. We’d love to see this baby AMG go to battle with the Audi RS3 and the BMW 1 Series M Coupe…
