Ten years after the A6 allroad first arrived on our market, Audi South Africa will to reintroduce its dirt road-friendly wagon in the slightly more compact guise of the A4 allroad quattro in February 2013.
The newcomer takes the basic A4 Avant formula and adds such crossover styling elements as additional protective plastic cladding on the lower body, a ride height elevated by 180 mm and a range of model-specific alloy wheels (17-inch 5-spoke items are standard). The Avant body shape gives the A4 allroad Quattro a luggage capacity that ranges from 490 dm3 with the rear seats in place to 1 430 dm3 with the seats folded.
This model’s underpinnings feature the latest iteration of Audi’s quattro all-wheel drivetrain with Torque Vectoring and ESP off road detection – a system that analyses the driving surface and adapts the ESP settings accordingly to provide improved traction during more challenging driving conditions.
A choice of two engines will be offered; a 2,0-litre TDI (130 kW/380 N.m) and a 2,0-litre T FSI (155 kW/350 N.m), both of which will be coupled with Audi’s S tronic dual-clutch transmission and feature start/stop technology. According to Audi, the turbodiesel will return an average fuel consumption figure of 6,0 L/100 km while the turbopetrol returns 7,3 L/100 km.
Audi will release local pricing closer to the model’s introduction in February 2013.
