The Automobile Association of South Africa has expanded its range of services and products in a bid to boost its membership above the one-million mark.
Divisional manager corporate affairs Petro Kruger this week said that AA members will get new cards that will give them access to new benefits over the coming weeks.
The organisation has two types of membership, AA personal and AA plus, but will in future offer four options with enhanced benefits: AA Action for the under-25s, AA Advantage, similar to current ordinary personal membership; AA Advantage Plus with extra benefits; and AA Alliance for drivers over 60.
Increased membership benefits are priced into the organisation’s usual annual fee increase which, for standard membership, is about 5,7 per cent this year.
AA Action for the under-25s is priced at a little more than half the standard AA membership fee, and offers facilities such as free towing up to 40km twice a year, roadside assistance on a pay-as-you-use basis for any extra AA services required, locksmith services, battery recharging and fuel aid for those who run out of petrol.
AA Advantage offers assistance at home as well as on the road. So if a member, for example, has a burst geyser, the AA will send a repairman to fix the problem, cover the cost of the call-out and the first hour’s labour. AA Advantage Plus includes an additional repair service for white goods such as dishwashers and freezers, long-distance towing and five free roadside assistance call-outs a year.
AA Alliance membership for the over-60s, at about a third less than standard membership, includes home assistance.
All members will be part of the World of Benefits programme and will earn discounts to use at participating businesses. Participants include Imperial Car Rental, Hi-Fi Corporation, Holiday Inn and Nu-Metro, reported.
