The Automobile Association (AA) has supplemented its fleet of Nissan half-tonner road patrol fleet vehicles with 30 Ford Bantams.
“For the last 14 years the AA has covered more than 70 million kilometres in its Nissan bakkies. These vehicles will still remain part of the AA’s fleet for the next three to four years,” said AA Managing Director Ed Kok. “We decided on the Ford Bantams for the 2003 replacement cycle and the vehicles are equipped with an integrated radio trunking system that incorporates satellite tracking features in order to give the AA’s national call centre real time locations of the vehicle at all times”.
The AA Bantam’s load-bed has been transformed into a custom-built storage facility comprising a tool kit, basic diagnostic equipment, containers of unleaded and premium petrol, diesel and water, fire extinguishers and battery booster packs, all of which are used by the patrols in rendering service to stranded AA members.
“We value the AA’s reputation in the market and are proud to be associated with them,” said Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s director of marketing and sales Nigel Harris.
Gauteng motorists will be the first to spot the AA’s new vehicles on the road, and the other major centres should start seeing them during the course of next year.
