The Ford Motor Company of SA’s (FMCSA) RoCam engine plant in Port Elizabeth has received a merit award in the annual Eastern Cape Exporter of the Year awards.
The plant, which is run by an all-South African team, produces RoCam engines that are exported to Ford’s subsidiaries in Europe, China, Russia and South Africa.
Trevor Kok, FMCSA’s director of manufacturing & supply, said the company’s Port Elizabeth staff had maintained production and machine up-time to consistently achieve the installed capacity, which will deliver 240 000 engines and kits per annum at the plant.
“Feedback from customers around the world has been extremely positive,” said Kok. “Customer satisfaction surveys in Europe show that the RoCam engine is consistently rated as best in its class. “The engine is fitted to Fiesta and Ka models in Europe. In South Africa, RoCam engines – which have 80 per cent local content – are fitted to Fiesta, Ikon and Bantam models”.
