[Peugeot News] Peugeot has lifted the wraps off its all-new 308 ahead of its official debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
There are definite hints of 208 in the grille and headlamp treatments, as well as tauter bodywork and more accentuated lines. The new 308’s bolder design reflects Peugeot’s intentions to serve up improved driving dynamics and efficiency in a bid to take on such segment leaders as the Ford Focus and VW Golf 7.
The interior also draws comparisons with that of the 208, featuring a tiered facia arrangement with a compact steering wheel. The most prominent feature has to be the 9,7-inch touchscreen in the centre of the dash. This system oversees a number of the car’s functions (think audio and ventilation) to make the dash a less cluttered affair.
Like the Golf, the new 308 is also underpinned by a modular platform. Dubbed EMP2, this platform is set to form the foundations of a number future C- and D-segment models wearing the Citroen and Peugeot badges and is a contributing factor in the new car weighing around 140 kg less than its forebear.
Measuring in at 4,25 metres long and 1,6 metres wide, the new 308 is marginally lower and shorter than the previous model. Even so, the new platform helps to free up additional interior and boot space.
Peugeot has not divulged any details regarding powerplants and transmissions, but it’s fair to assume that there won’t be a vast change from those featuring in the current model.
The new Peugeot 308 will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10 and will go on sale locally by mid-2014.
