Aston Martin boss, Dr Ulrich Bez, has revealed he sees the company sticking with its proven V12 powerplants for another five to 10 years. Asked by Drive about the British sportscar company’s plans for hybrid technology, Bez replied: “Hybridisation has two aspects; like in Formula One to pass someone, which is irrelevant on the road, and the other is to be more fuel efficient.”
On the issue of saving fuel, Bez feels Aston Martin has more to gain by further development of mass-saving materials and the management of mass than the incorporation of hybrid technology. “It is very simple,” he told Drive. “If you drive a little slower you will be much better off in terms of saving fuel.”
Although he sees the V12 configuration remaining part of the Aston Martin formula for the foreseeable future (or at least until pressure from ever-tightening EU regulations mounts), Bez did not rule out the possibility of these engines moving away from the current 5,9-litre capacity.
