The five-door Audi A3 Sportback is now available in South Africa.
The long wheelbase, short overhangs and flat roof design give the A3 Sportback a more purposeful stance. It features much of the design characteristics of the regular A3 hatchback with narrow headlights, slim rear taillamps, and an integrated roof spoiler. The A3 Sportback is 4 310 mm long, 1 785 mm wide, 1 425 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2 636 mm.
The engine line-up remains the same as the three-door’s, with T FSI and TDI units on offer. Petrol models include a 90 kW 1,4-litre and a 132 kW 1,8-litre. Audi claims a zero to 100 km/h time of 7,3 seconds for the latter version when mated with an S tronic transmission. A six-speed manual is also available with the 1,4-litre unit. Diesel power comes in the form of a 1,6 TDI mated to an S tronic transmission. This unit produces 77 kW at 3 000 r/min and 250 N.m between 1 500 and 2 750 r/min. Fuel consumption is a claimed 3,8 litres/100 km with a low 99 g/km of CO2.
Standard equipment across the range includes daytime running lights, height adjustable front seats, an adjustable steering column, Bluetooth connectivity, ABS with EBD and brake assist, an ESP system, an electronic differential diff lock, seven airbags and air-conditioning. The SE equipped models come with 17-inch wheels (16 inches on the S model), Audi Drive Select system, front fog lights, front sports seats, climate control and sports suspension.
