Recent rumours are that Audi is currently working on an A9 super saloon that will compete with vehicles such as the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide. This vehicle could also provide the platform for use in a rumoured production version of Lamborghini’s proposed luxury saloon, the Estoque.
Supposedly Audi engineers and bean counters are doing all they can to get the A9 approved. A shared platform could be the clincher that gets both cars green-lighted for production.
It is believed that there will be a choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive versions of the A9, and that there may also be a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.
The Lamborghini Estoque, if approved, will be the Italian company’s first production saloon. The Estoque concept made its first appearance at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, hinting at Lamborghini’s intention to explore automotive genres outside its familiar realm of two-seater supercars.
If both cars receive the rubber stamp, it should make the super saloon segment of the market all that more exciting.
