Audi is planning to unveil a prototype of its 375 kW six-litre V10 RSR at the Geneva Show next year. Sources within the Volkswagen Group have confirmed that the Ingölstadt-based manufacturer was working on an all-new model to slot above the TT in its lineup.
CARtoday.com reported last week that Volkswagen AG had shelved plans to build its world speed record-breaking W12 supercar. Presumably Audi’s management has different views on viability of supercars?
The mid-engined, two-seater RSR will be built by Lamborghini and will probably make use of the platform and components of the new baby Lamborghini “Gallardo”, codenamed L140.
According to our sources, the RSR will probably be powered by a new six-litre V10 unit capable of propelling the Über Audi to a claimed top speed of about 322 km/h. The RSR is also expected to be equipped with a six-speed Tiptronic gearbox, complete with F1-style gearshift paddles mounted on the steering wheel.
Styling will be derived from Audi’s Rosemeyer concept car (pictured left), which was first shown at the Frankfurt show three years ago. However, it is believed that some of the concept’s more outlandish features will be toned down to reflect a more corporate look.
The car is widely expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year. The car will retail for about R1,65 million in the US, making it one of the cheapest supercars in the world.
Audi plans on building only 1 500 RSRs in the model’s first year of production.
