[Audi News] Audi has unveiled an ultra-lightweight concept based on its TT S quattro Coupe ahead of this year’s Wörthersee Show.
The Audi TT ultra quattro concept is a master class in weight reduction, tipping the scales at 1 100 kg having shed a whopping 300 kg from the standard TT’s kerb weight. Audi engineers have made extensive use of lightweight materials such as magnesium for the floorpan and carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic for the rear end, transmission tunnel, roof and B-pillars. These measures lop 43 kg and 100 kg off the all-up weight, respectively.
Further fat-trimming measures include bucket seats sourced from the hardcore R8 GT representing a 22 kg weight saving, lightweight alloy wheels that are 20 kg lighter, a titanium exhaust, aluminum brake callipers and binning the wing mirrors in favour of compact cameras.
Despite its lightweight bearing, the TT ultra quattro is hardly spartan; among the interior appointments are air-conditioning, electric windows and an electromechanical parking brake.
Power is provided by a TT S-based 2,0-litre TFSI turbopetrol engine developing 228 kW and 400 N.m of torque. Coupled with a six-speed manual transmission, this unit is capable of propelling the TT ultra quattro from standstill to 100 km/h in 4,2 seconds on the way to a 280 km/h top speed.
