Delta Motor Corporation has been awarded the South African Society for Co-operative Education Employer Merit Award for its co-operative education training.
The Award recognises “the consistent attainment of a standard of excellence in the participation in and practice of co-operative education” by an employer. It was recently presented to the company by SASCE representative and head of Cooperative Education at the Port Elizabeth Technikon, George de Lange.
Delta Human Resources Manager Chris Thexton said that the company had for many years provided numerous training opportunities to students enrolled in Mechanical, Industrial and Electrical Engineering programmes.
In its 2002 programme, the company has recruited 11 in-service cooperative education trainees to augment its technical skills requirements. The programme’s emphasis is to provide experiential learning, with students being placed on well-structured programmes within the company.
“The company also provides further training opportunities to graduates by means of the Graduate in Training programme. In some cases, trainees from the cooperative programme progress to graduate in training status on completion of their practical training,” Thexton said.
