Mercedes-Benz will produce a limited run of 434 kW CLK-DTM models to commemorate the CLKs driven by F1 idol Jean Alesi and touring car ace Bernd Schneider in last year’s Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series.
According to a report, only about 100 examples of the CLK-DTM will be built. For this year’s DTM, Mercedes-Benz prepared a race version of the C-Class, but the CLK-DTM will be a tribute to AMG (Mercedes-Benz tuning firm) founder Hans Werner Aufrecht.
The CLK-DTM was developed by HWA, Aufrecht’s independent racing company, which prepares and campaigns Mercedes-AMG’s factory DTM cars.
The car is powered by a modified version of the CLK55’s 5,4-litre supercharged AMG-tuned V8 linked to a five-speed Speedtronic gearbox. reports that the 434-kW mill will produce 800 N.m of torque and propel the CLK-DTM from zero to 100 km/h in less than four seconds before reaching a top speed of 320 km/h.
For the CLK-FTM, there will be suspension, brake, wheel and tyre upgrades above and beyond those on typical AMG cars. The car will be notably lighter than the standard CLK (by virtue of having no rear seats) and a roll cage will be fitted to the production versions.
Further details about the R1,6-million plus CLK-DTM remain unclear. It is not known whether the car will be built in right-hand drive form or whether it will be sold outside Germany at all.
