Renault’s board of directors this week adopted a series of changes that will forge closer relations between the French manufacturer and its Japanese ally, Nissan.

From April 29, Renault’s current chairman and chief executive, Louis Schweitzer, will assume the position of chairman of the board of directors.

Carlos Ghosn will retain his position as president and chief executive of Nissan, but the role of president and chief executive of Renault will be added to his portfolio.

The announcement follows widespread rumours of the planned changes adopted at the Renault Annual General Meeting on April 26 2002.
