It was only a matter of time before tuning companies got their hands on the bold looking X7 but in house automotive manufacturer Alpina has already shown what their iteration will look like with the BMW Alpina XB7 which comes with 457 kW and plenty of new trim.
Just like the hot-off-the-press X7 which features a split headlight design, the latest creation to come out of the Alpina manufacturer also boasts this statement piece front fascia, albeit with a bit more grunt and Alpina details placed around the palatially sized SUV. The illuminated BMW grille which we have also seen teased on the i7 will feature on the Alpina too.
Unique 21-inch wheels come as standard and are wrapped in 285/45R21 tires although Alpina is said to offer iconic multi spoke 23-inch rims too. While much lower in profile than the standard X7, the BMW Alpina XB7 is said to be equipped with unique dampers offering air suspension that has a maximum travel of 40 mm.
Under the hood, the X7’s standard 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with mild-hybrid tech has been pushed from its stock 390 kW to a whopping 457 kW while offering 800 N.m of torque. This power and torque is translated via an eight-speed automatic gearbox that can get the behemoth onto 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds before topping out at 290 km/h. The large increase in power is compliments of a new engine management system and upgraded cooling to help cope with the gains.
On the inside, the BMW Alpina XB7 also boasts the latest iDrive 8 system from its X7 sibling, a hand-finished leather steering wheel with Alpina blue-green stitching finishes the rest of the cabin’s upgrades.
Alpina states that they will start taking orders for the flagship SUV in September and offer both left-hand and right-hand variants. More details and pricing on standard equipment will be made available within a month’s time and the Alpina website will feature a configurator for the latest addition to their portfolio.
