BMW and Apple have devised a very handy way of having your favourite songs wherever you are, even in your car, with the development of the BMW iPod adaptor, now available in South Africa.
The system, developed by the BMW Group and Apple, enables drivers to seamlessly use their iPod in BMW’s 3 Series, Z4 Roadster, X3 and X5 as well as Mini Cooper and Cooper S models, through a direct connection found in the glovebox.
The iPod can then be operated through the car’s audio system using the standard controls on the multifunction steering wheel. BMW’s iPod Adapter enables drivers to easily access their entire music library, shuffle songs, skip between tracks, and adjust the volume without any loss of sound quality or control while driving.
At the time of its announcement in the US last year, Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive said: “One of the next frontiers for a seamless digital music experience is the car. We all spend a lot of time driving, and now this elegant solution allows iPod users to enjoy their entire music collection in their BMW or Mini.”
Phil Horton, BMW South Africa’s marketing director, echoed Apple’s sentiments, adding that “The BMW iPod Adapter provides our drivers with virtually endless miles of music without their hands ever leaving the steering wheel – taking sheer driving pleasure to new heights.”
The iPod Adapter’s recommended selling price is R1 250, which includes installation only done by authorised BMW and Mini dealers. For more about the “iPod your BMW” campaign, visit ipodyourbmw.com.
